New Year New Start? Information regards to buying a business

Buying a new business is a significant decision for most people and there are so many different types of businesses for sale presenting different opportunities, different profitability levels, different locations, requiring different lifestyles to run and we could go on!

Prospective buyers are not only faced with a very large choice of different businesses available but also a whole host of questions to ponder such as:

• What type of business should I buy?
• What is involved in a business?
• Should I buy a leasehold, freehold or mobile business?
• How do I go about finding the one suitable for my needs?
• How do I assess it’s profitability?
• Can I raise finance to buy a business, if so how much and how do I go about it?
• What legal support will I need?

Just a few questions of many!

Why ponder alone when you have specialists that can assist you? Here at Ernest Wilsons we have Business Consultants who spend day after day talking to prospective buyers discussing with them all aspects of finding and buying a business.

2013 - the business year ahead

One of the most frequent questions that I get asked is - 'when will the market turn?' - if only I knew!!!

Actually, looking at the sales figures and viewing numbers for 2012, you could say that it is starting to turn already - numbers are definitely and significantly on the increase and from our point of view, this is all we can ask. Interest leads to viewings and viewings leads to offers and sales.

The second most asked question is - 'what is the most popular type of business' - again this is not easy to answer as everybody favours their own type of businesses. Food businesses prove popular because of the high profit margins, sensible hours and low stock values. Restaurant especially at the moment are proving popular with the help of programs live BBC's Masterchef, Saturday Morning Kitchen etc. I always say to people that Confucius had the right idea - 'Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.'

Lets hope that 2013 is successful for all of us whether you are buying or selling or running your business.
