Richards Family Fisheries - the next chapter.......

In early 2010, upon being made redundant, Barrie Richards contacted me and we met up and had a discussion about different types of businesses, price ranges etc. Barrie fancied running a fish & chips shop and I selected a number in the area and locations that were not to far for him to travel. Upon viewing some of the businesses he got an idea of what he required and also which businesses did not satisfy his requirements. One of the businesses he viewed, Websters Fisheries on Waterloo Road, Pudsey ticked every box and the same day Barrie made an offer which, after some negotiation, was accepted. After attending the Federation of Fish Friers training course, Barrie attended at the business and Mark Webster, the owner gave Barrie full 'hands on' training. Soon, Barrie was competent in all aspects of running the shop ie. cutting fish, rumbling potatoes and obviously frying. After completion, Barrie put his marketing skills into good use and not only produced fantastic fish & chips but also increased the already excellent turnover, partly down to rebranding the shop 'Richards Family Fisheries'. In October 2010, Barrie decided to sell the business and fancied buying a run down fish & chips shop to build up as he enjoys utilising his marketing skills. Yesterday, Barrie's Solicitors completed the sale of 'Richards Family Fisheries' and next week Barrie completes the purchase of Holywell Green Fisheries, Halifax which no doubt will also be a roaring success - watch this space! UPDATE 22.2.12 After Barrie had run Richards Family Fisheries in Holywell Green for several months, he had managed to build the business up to a fantastic level and decided it was the right time to sell. He contacted Ernest Wilsons to sell it for him and after only 4 days of being for sale, the first viewing took place. After several more viewings took place, a price very close to the asking price was negotiated, contracts were exchanged and in early January 2012 completion took place at a very healthy profit. Barrie then decided to look for a new venture, this time he fancied a 'blank canvas' - setting up a fish & chips shop from scratch. He obtained a number of suitable sites from Ernest Wilsons, one of those being a closed Chinese Takeaway in Huddersfield Road, Brighouse which by coincidence, used to be a Fish & Chips shop many years ago. After seeking the relevant advice from Hopkins Catering Services with regards to the fish frying range, Barrie decided that it was for him and negotiated a new lease via Ernest Wilsons with the landlords and completed in February 2012. After a 'military precision' shop fit, the premises looked fantastic and Barrie soon had the door open and trading. No doubt with Barrie's determination and hard work, this shop will be another success and I am sure that he has already got his eye on his next venture - watch this space!
