No time to blog!
It has been extremely busy all week, so busy in fact that I have not had time to blog!
In between dealing with buyers, offers and deposits, I have been out valuing new businesses to come onto the market, some of these can be seen at www.ernest-wilson.co.uk.
I have also been talking to Business Link www.businesslink.gov.uk who are an excellent source of information for first time buyers and we are hoping to forge closer links with them in the future.

Busy day valuing

Looking at the valuers diaries, they are full to busting with appointments to meet clients to provide valuations of their businesses. This is another good indicator of confidence returning to the business sales market as many clients are selling to enable them to buy a bigger business.

Completions
I have just been going through the completions to date from Jan 2010 and it is very encouraging and gladly much better than 2009. Looking at the average sale prices though it is clear that the businesses that are selling are those that are competitively priced.
A number of clients acknowledge that a business is worth what a willing buyer is prepared to pay. Having spoken to our sales team, the consensus is that buyers are more discerning than ever and are viewing more and more businesses and by doing so and comparing, the best value for money businesses are usually the most attractive.
Whilst clients are advised that price is the key, it is often difficult for a seller to reduce to a price lower than they expect or even that they paid for it, however the market dictates the price.

Another happy client!
Mr Richards rang me on the way into the office today to say that he has completed the purchase of his fish & chips shop in Pudsey and that he is over the moon. The whole transaction was a breeze and he is looking forward to being his own boss and has already got one eye on selling for a profit and moving to a bigger shop!

1990 was a great date in history for me - I began my career at Ernest Wilson Business Agents (www.ernest-wilson.co.uk). I started my working life at Barclays Bank as a lowly office junior and soon realised that the manager of the bank who had over 30 years with Barclays Bank only drove a Sierra and for me, I had bigger aspirations for this and could not face 30 years of hard work only to reach the lofty heights for a Sierra (no disrespect to Sierra owners!). At 18 years old, the world was my oyster and I was approached by Eve Williamson of Ernest Wilsons who caught me on a bad day and suggested I called in for a chat after work and that chat turned out to change my life. Within 1 month, I had left Barclays and started my long association with Ernest Wilsons starting as a sales negotiator (though I was never given a job role!) and in 1995 gained the title Sales Director which though my role is varied and involves more than sales makes for an interesting working life!
